After a week, and a fairly epic snow storm, Cam decided it was try to find work somewhere. It was either that, or packing his duffel and hitting the road again to see what else was down the line. Since he didn't quite trust his bike on the still snow-covered streets, Cam let his feet do the work this time and walked around the place looking for any place that listed help wanted.
He thought it was a stroke of luck, or maybe fate, that he not only found the sign but one that was attached to an automotive garage.
He stepped into one of the bays and called out. "Hello? Anyone here?"

"I'm hoping you're still looking for a mechanic," Cam said, cutting right to the chase.

Date: 2015-02-09 06:22 pm (UTC)Okay. The guy looked a little young to be a manager of anything outside of a school club, but he for one knew that life experience had a way of maturing some well beyond the ages shown on their faces. Cam took his hand, shook it firmly, and listed out his resume.
"Basically, I've had my hands on any type of car engine I could since I was old enough to grip a tool. Used to sneak under cars my dad worked on as long as I remember, which pissed my mom off when we both came in covered in grease and grime and neither of us that contrite about it. I've been making my way around the last few years working in a number of different shops and garages, and I have references from all of them if you want."

Date: 2015-02-12 12:49 am (UTC)Davin is impressed and a little relieved when the guy lists his experience, and he smirks a bit because his stories sound a lot like Davin's, except he was working on cars alone. "That all sounds great... Sorry, I didn't catch your name."
He stuffs his shop rag in his back pocket and looks around the shop. "Well, ya wouldn't know it from lookin' right now, but we're usually very, very busy and incredibly understaffed. I just had a bit of, uh, staff turnover an' I'm in desperate need of new blood. Pay's decent, but negotiable, an' I really need someone t'work full time. How's that all sound?"

Date: 2015-02-12 01:19 am (UTC)"I'd say that sounds like a definite plan," Cam nodded then extended his hand. "Sorry. I usually have slightly better manners than that. I'm Cam Fielding. Pleasure to meet you."
He looked around the shop, noting the setup. "You've got a nice place. How long have you been here?"

Date: 2015-02-13 12:53 am (UTC)"No worries. Pleasure's mine." He grins proudly when Cam compliments the shop and laughs a little. "I was teachin' myself how t'work on cars since before I was old enough t'reach the pedals, and I started running around underfoot o' the owner here when I was seventeen. Started provin' myself an' buildin' up a client base, an' he put me in charge before takin' off t'Mexico about six months ago."
It was the proudest day of Davin's life. It's too bad that it caused so much drama, but he wouldn't give it up for anything.
"Hey, what are ya doin' right now?" Davin points to a Honda off to the side. "That thing has a cracked radiator an' needs the whole system replaced. Do that an' don't fuck it up, an' the job's yours. Deal?"

Date: 2015-02-13 04:23 am (UTC)"Now that's my kind of interview," Cam laughed and nodded towards his bike. "Let me get my tools out of my bag and I'll get right on it."
He held out a hand towards Davin and shook his hand. "Thanks for the shot at this. I kind of like the feel of this place; glad I'm able to stay on for a while."

Date: 2015-02-15 10:04 pm (UTC)It's not like Davin can complain about being skilled enough to have built up more of a client base than he can handle all on his own, but it is a little overwhelming and he could definitely use the help.

Date: 2015-02-15 10:47 pm (UTC)Cam couldn't help but laugh. "Not the first time my tools have made someone happy," he said, tongue in cheek when he came back in with his pride and joy. The tools he carried from town to town weren't all the tools he wanted, but anything else and he'd have to start packing more than side bags and the duffel he wore on his back.
"Now, lets see about this radiator and get myself on the road to a better place to live than a hotel room."
